Dr. Hemant Kumar Suman

  Finally Got the Mentor

A kid of a very small village “KHATAWADA” in outskirt of Jhalawar was not having access to quality education but he got admission in Navodaya School in 6th class. He was the first kid of that village who got admission in such a prestigious school. But still he did not have the proper guidance. After 5 years at Navodaya, he was confused with which subjects to opt for. His father wanted him to go in medical field but he was not interested in biology. He managed to select Mathematics as his core subject. Still he was not sure about his future endeavours.
He cracked AIEEE exam after 12th and took admission at NIT Kurukshetra. He was a gold medallist during his graduation, but still wanted to get job in public sector company (PSU). In 2012, campus selections at NITKKR were delayed and also some of the PSUs decided to recruit through GATE exam only, so he decided to appear in the GATE exam and also started collecting information about the UPSC exams.
Finally, he took admission at IIT Delhi for M.Tech, where at the age of 23 he met Prof. Kiran Seth (founder of SPIC MACAY and Padamshree awardee) – “The Mentor who changed his life”. Prof. Seth guided him to the right path and Said to him “this young bright mind should pursue PhD and do some good research”. On suggestions of Prof. Seth, Mr. Hemant decided to pursue his PhD in Operations Research from IIT Delhi, where he developed various system optimization models for Delhi public transportation.
At the age of 28, Dr. Hemant Suman not only became the first scientist of his village but also he has received several research awards for applying his research to the real-life problems of pressing concerns and high impact, such as young scientist award for presenting his research in an international conference held in United Kingdom. Today he has about 20 research publications in various journals and conferences of high repute. Currently, he is working as a Research Scientist in the Department of Transport Engineering and Logistics at Pontificia University, Santiago, Chile, which is one of the world’s top ranked universities in the area of Transportation.
After understanding the good vision and mission of Dreamentor, he became the core team member of Dreamentor.
