Hi friends hope all are doing good with their lives. As the day of the exam is nearing, the tension and pressure on exam preparation would also be increasing for many if not all the aspirants. An Important component of any Exam preparation is Motivation. If an individual is motivated enough, he or she will find the entire preparation period very enjoyable. On the other hand, if the motivation is lacking the most talented and intelligent aspirants also find it very difficult to concentrate and get the most out of their exam preparation to achieve success. If the Exam preparation is a recipe, then Motivation is like Salt in the recipe. As you all are well aware that without salt any recipe is tasteless which means you cannot enjoy it. Enjoying the preparation takes everyone one step closer to success. First of all motivation comes from inside. So to stay motivated ask yourself two things a. Do you really want to do this? b. Why you want to do this? The answer will give you the energy to put your efforts into it. Now always keep few points in your mind The competition is getting tough day by day but your competition is with you, your failure, your fear, your laziness, and your weaknesses. So work hard to defeat not others but the odds in you. No doubt the vacancies are sometimes less sometimes more but among them, there is one post for you. It just want you to work hard and it will be yours. Let no path be left to try to reach your goal. Believe the more you study more ways you can find to achieve them. For the benefit of aspirants, these are some useful tips to remain motivated during the exam preparation. 1. Purpose behind the job Question yourself – “Why should I become a civil servant/ Inspector or any other for which I am giving the exam”? Besides good salary and social prestige, think beyond that and this thinking will be a great motivation throughout your preparation. 2. Avoid over-thinking and dreaming Most of the time, aspirants end up dreaming about the fairy-tale ending of achieving their goals rather than building a reliable path that leads to it. Fantasizing about being a government officer is not going to change things. To succeed in the exam, one must have a proper plan and an executable preparation strategy. An executable strategy acts as a constant motivator for us. 3. Breaking target into small goals For instance, if your goal is to secure a rank below under 100, you must have subject-wise targets also. Based on your strengths and weaknesses, fix your targets for individual subjects too. Further, subdivide the targets paper-wise. This will help you not only in managing the examination preparation but also in sustaining the motivation for a longer time. This is a smart study. 4. Regular Evaluation You must evaluate yourself at regular intervals. Allocate sufficient time for testing yourself through practice and mock tests on a daily and weekly basis. This will act as a feedback mechanism for your preparation and help in rectifying your mistakes. When you see progress in your preparation, it will act as a motivator for you. 5. Focus on the present Realize the power of ‘now' . Invest your thoughts in the present. While thinking about the failures in the past leads to depression, too many thoughts about the future will lead to anxiety. So, aspirants are advised to be in the present and stick to the day’s schedule. If you do it in a religious way, the act of preparation itself will become a prime motivator for you. Whereas, the outcome of the preparation will be of least concern to you. 6. Health Prepare your body and mind for the exam on a constant basis. Remember that a strong mind lies only in a strong body. Do mental exercise if not more than just 5 minutes of meditation can bring a drastic change in your thinking. Also, eat healthy food and be hydrated throughout. Preparation is just like living in a new city, where you have no idea of roads. You have just a straight map from your house to your destination but when to slowly start exploring the city you discover more routes some are short some are long some are smooth while some full of ditches. And then you decide which path to follow. The same is with preparation. You start You learn you explore and then you make your own path. “The broad canvas that being a part of the civil services offers one is what pulled me towards appearing for the examination,” Tina Dabi AIR-01 UPSC CSE 2015 All the best.
